But I wonder how people have the time and dedication to sit and and read blogs. It is easy to create an initial blog, but why would someone want to read it? It amazes me that some people get paid to give their opinion on things. Have we become so dull that we have to read someone elses opinion instead of formulating our own?

Could a blog be used in a teachable way. Would this be a good forum for electronic study forums? If so, how? Links from your home page? Email others letting them know the address of your blog?

I believe the blog is an excellent way for the church to communicate it's missions with the broader community. Whether the mission be abroad or domestic or even a local project; we need to make our work known to others. The ability to document what you are doing and why will help in the support of your project.
